Strengthening Air Pollution Control and Public Health Collaboration: RCCC UI Conducts Study Visit to Bangkok

Research Center for Climate Change Universitas Indonesia (RCCC UI), in collaboration with representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, conducted a study visit to Bangkok, Thailand, on 10 March 2026. The visit aimed to strengthen understanding of integrated approaches to air pollution control and public health.

The delegation visited Mahidol University and the Department of Health under the Ministry of Public Health Thailand to learn from Thailand’s experience in addressing air pollution through cross-sectoral coordination.

Thailand has been recognized for its relatively advanced air quality management system, including policy frameworks, monitoring systems, and health-based interventions. During the visit, participants explored how academic institutions contribute to evidence-based policymaking, as well as how the health sector integrates air pollution into surveillance systems and risk management strategies.

Key insights from the visit include the importance of digital health surveillance systems, such as disease tracking linked to air pollution exposure, and the implementation of risk-based approaches to protect vulnerable populations. Thailand’s strategies, including clean air shelters, public risk communication, and tiered emergency response systems, provide practical lessons for Indonesia.

This study visit also facilitated knowledge exchange and opened opportunities for future collaboration between Indonesian and Thai institutions in advancing air quality management and protecting public health.
