The International Environmental Health Seminar ENVIFAIR 2025 X RCCC UI was successfully held on 25 September 2025 at the Balai Sidang Universitas Indonesia, Depok, bringing together experts, researchers, and students to discuss the urgent issue of air pollution and its connection to Indonesia’s pathway toward Net Zero Emissions (NZE).
With the theme “Breathing Clean, Living Green: Achieving Net-Zero Emissions Towards Different Sectors,” the event was jointly organized by the Research Center for Climate Change Universitas Indonesia (RCCC UI) and ENVIFAIR 2025 (an initiative by ENVIHSA FKM UI), supported by Visi Indonesia Raya Emisi Nol Bersih (ViriyaENB).
The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the health, environmental, and socio-economic impacts of air pollution in Indonesia and beyond, with a particular focus on transboundary haze and its disproportionate effects on vulnerable groups. Discussions throughout the event underscored the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration in addressing air quality challenges, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting sustainable transformation across sectors.
The seminar began with opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Indonesia, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, followed by a keynote speech by Mr. Matthew Perkins (UN ESCAP) on “Collaborative Approaches to Improve Air Quality and Achieve Net Zero Emissions.” which was delivered virtually via Zoom.
Throughout the seminar, distinguished speakers shared valuable insights:
- Prof. Sotiris Vardoulakis (University of Canberra, Australia) discussed the HEAL-HAZE and CANBREATHE Projects on Wildfire Smoke and Health.
- Prof. Bin Jalaludin (University of New South Wales) presented Overview of Air Pollution and Health Impacts.
- Dr. Gopika Indu (University of Canberra, Australia) explored Clean Energy for a Healthy Environment and Lives.
- Mr. Nyoman Gde Strya Wibawa (UNEP-FI) delivered presentation on Principles for Responsible Banking: Shaping the future of banking.

The discussions highlighted that improving air quality and achieving net-zero emissions call for more than just science and policy, they require collaboration that connects different sectors and communities.
The event wrapped up with the presentation of certificates to speakers and participants, as well as the announcement of competition winners. It marked a shared step forward in advancing collaborative efforts for cleaner air and a more sustainable future.
