On July 15, 2024, a multi-stakeholder workshop was held at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Kemenko Marves) in Jakarta to discuss the health impacts of implementing Euro 4/6 fuel standards in Indonesia. The workshop brought together key national and local agencies—including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, BPJS Kesehatan, BRIN, BMKG, and others—to review air quality trends and assess the burden of disease and healthcare costs associated with air pollution in major urban areas such as Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya.

Discussions covered the rising concentrations of PM2.5 and other pollutants during the dry season, the correlation between air quality and respiratory diseases, and the significant economic costs borne by the national health system. Panelists emphasized the urgency of transitioning to cleaner fuels, improving data integration and surveillance, and strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration. The event highlighted the importance of evidence-based policy in addressing the public health challenges posed by air pollution and ensuring a healthier, more sustainable urban future.
